LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! Hollywood Magic in Pasadena highlights Pasadena’s intrinsic role in the multidimensional world of filmmaking. The Pasadena Museum of History is proud to present this exhibition curated by Julia Long, PMH’s Curator of History and Exhibitions, on view from June 8, 2024, through February 28, 2025. Focusing on the people who helped shape the industry – both on screen and behind the scenes – and locations that provide settings for their artistic pursuits. The galleries feature a wide range of objects relating to movies, television, music videos, and more, celebrating the creative process from initial concept to finished productions.

The exhibition also explores the history of filming on the Fényes Estate. Given their wide-ranging artistic vision, it is hardly surprising that Eva and Adalbert Fényes would embrace the fledgling motion picture industry. In 1912, legendary director D. W. Griffith featured their beautiful estate in the silent film, The Queen’s Necklace. Star power seems to have impressed even a sophisticated society matron, as evidenced by a charming collection of Eva’s photographs and sketches from the various productions filmed on her property, including handwritten diary entries with captions such as, “Douglas Fairbanks on our lawn.”

Curated by Julia Long, PMH’s Curator of History and Exhibitions, LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! is made possible, in part, by the Paloheimo Foundation.

A Spooky Soiree featuring the launch of the Erica Molinari Trunk Show, and Magic with Mentalist Mark Gibson in the inaugural event of the Back Salon

    * Come dressed to impress! Champagne will be served.

"Triskaidekaphobia" is listed in the dictionary as the extreme superstition regarding the number 13. The Otis Elevator Company reports that 80 to 90% of the elevators it has installed in skyscrapers and large hotels do not even have a 13th-floor button. According to surveys, more than 50% of people say they are at least a little superstitious, with Lady Luck, black cats, knocking on wood, rabbits’ feet, pennies, ladders and broken mirrors serve as lucky and unlucky reminders of this fact in our everyday lives... What better day to have a PARTY!

    ARTIST ERICA MOLINARI
Featured this evening, a visiting collection of jewelry by Erica Molinari edited to focus on charms and tokens. The truck show of talismans will run through the weekend, featuring hundreds of charms in an array of different sizes and materials. Tokens adorned with images of animals and trees, skulls and crosses, lucky symbols and poetry, created to spark personal memories and to be worn and cherished for years to come. Erica Molinari is a contemporary designer based in New York making fine jewelry inspired by Gothic, Medieval, and Victorian styles. Her collections of gold, silver and painted enamel pieces are unique and intended to be worn every day.

    MENTALIST MARK GIBSON
For the first time ever in the Back Salon at Gold Bug, mentalist Mark Gibson will perform a series of intimate shows for free. He will expose the cracks that exist in our reality by working with personal objects and good luck charms from the audience. Appearing on programs like "The Tonight Show" and captivating audiences of thousands around the globe on luxury cruise liners, Mark Gibson is very quickly becoming one of the most sought-after Mentalists of our time. He is continuously redefining the art of mind reading and is one of the leading figures in the world of Mentalism today.

    ABOUT GOLD BUG
