Members and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center are invited to free events and activities for anyone 50 and older throughout March.

Everyone who registers for Zoom events will receive an email link for joining each activity online. Most Zoom events are recorded and televised on the Pasadena Senior Center YouTube channel.
Extended Pasadena Senior Center Hours – Beginning Monday, March 6, extended Pasadena Senior Center hours will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm, and Saturday from 8:00 am to noon.
Sample Classes for Spring – Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 3 and 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., most onsite at Pasadena Senior Center and one via Zoom. Whether you’re interested in taking a fitness course, learning a new language, pursuing a new hobby, or any number of new experiences, come to sample classes, also known as Class Tasting, meet the instructors and sit in on free mini-versions of 14 of the 34 fee-based spring courses that will be offered beginning Apr. 10. Music Appreciation – Thursday, Apr. 6, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. Join the discussion about music of different eras and the impact on people of those generations, and share your favorite songs or artists who have been meaningful to you. Monthly Food Distribution — Friday, Apr. 7, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Pasadena Senior Center. Low-income adults 60 and older receive one free box of food and couples receive two. Each box includes foods that meet specific nutritional needs, such as cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk and related dairy products, cereals and other grain products, and more. Proof of income and California ID are required for first-time recipients. Boxes are heavy, so bring a pull-behind personal cart to the parking lot between the Pasadena Senior Center and the Metro Gold Line station. Opening boxes on the premises is prohibited. Movie Matinees – Fridays, Apr. 7, 14, 21, and 28, at 1 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Each PSC member who registers may bring one nonmember guest.
APR 7: “I Can Only Imagine” (2018, PG) starring Dennis Quaid and J. Michael Finley. The film, based on true events, is the inspiring story behind MercyMe’s beloved chart-topping song that brings ultimate hope to so many and is a gripping reminder of the power of true forgiveness.
APR 14: “Peter Rabbit” (2018, PG) with the voice talents of James Corden and Margot Robbie. In this animated film based on Beatrix Potter’s timeless book, a rebellious bunny enters into a battle of wills when he tries to sneak into a curmudgeonly farmer’s vegetable garden.
APR 21: “The Birdcage” (1996, R) starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. A gay cabaret owner and his drag queen companion agree to put up a false straight front so their son can introduce them to his fiancée’s right-wing moralistic parents.
APR 28: “The Grey Fox” (1982, PG) starring Richard Farnsworth and Jackie Burroughs. In this fact-based film, an aging but gentlemanly stagecoach robber is released from prison in 1904 and decides to go to Canada to become a train robber. Senior Athlete Fitness Exam – Wednesday, Apr. 12, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Anyone 50 or older who actively engages in sports and other athletic activities is welcome to be assessed in the areas of cardiovascular, muscular, flexibility and balance. Assessments take only about 15 minutes to complete, and each participant will receive a report that identifies any risk factors and how to prevent potential future health issues. Cultural Thursday: Photographer Wilhelm Bleckmann – Thursday, Apr. 20, at 2 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Meet this professor emeritus of press and art photography and former photographer for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association as he discusses some of his photographs that currently are on display in PSC’s fireplace lounge. Many of the images date from the 1970s when the German-born Bleckmann was director of photography for the magazine Society West, which enabled to take candid shots of many popular film and television stars during that time. Health Fair and Fresh Produce Distribution – Friday, Apr. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center (while supplies last). Health fair services indoors will include blood pressure and glucose testing, hearing tests, updates in Medicare health plans, resources and more. Preassembled bags of fresh, nutritious vegetables will be distributed on the patio while supplies last courtesy of Order of Malta Mobile Ministries. Get Your Senior Metro TAP Card – Friday, Apr. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Carlos A. Hernandez, principal community relations officer for rail safety and mobility programs for Metro, and other Metro staff will provide TAP cards – reloadable fare cards that provide the most convenient and flexible way for older adults to pay their fares on Metro buses and rail lines. The cards also are accepted for travel with 26 transit agencies across Los Angeles County. Just tap and go! Photo ID is required. Mediation and Dispute Resolution – Thursday, Apr. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Prevent Medication Errors – Thursday, Apr. 27, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. A Foundation for Senior Services pharmacy specialist will discuss some of the root causes and common types of medication errors and offer advice on how to prevent these errors at home. Cultural Thursday – Total Disaster: Early Cinema and Onscreen Disasters – Thursday, Apr. 27, at 2 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Sensational disasters were big attractions for moviegoers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Film historian Galen Wilkes will present a program that will include footage from four famous onscreen disasters: the 1898 Spanish-American War, the 1900 Galveston hurricane, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and the 1912 sinking of the Titanic. Wilkes will be joined by Jim Constantian who will discuss a Titanic survivor he knew. In addition to online classes, onsite events, and other activities, members, and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center are encouraged to visit the website regularly for a quarterly online magazine, free food delivery for older adults in need, COVID updates specifically for older adults and more.
The center is an independent, donor-supported nonprofit organization that has served older adults for more than 60 years. Beginning Monday, March 6, extended spring and summer hours will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to noon. Rooms are sanitized after each use. Masks are optional.
