On Friday, September 8, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm, Kristina Drake debuts her first clothing collection at Gold Bug and you are invited to celebrate with the artist at the opening reception. This evening Kristina presents hand-embroidered jean jackets with bold, colorful, and unique nature-inspired patches of her own design. After participating in several shows previously in which her sculptural work was exhibited, Gold Bug is excited to be displaying this newest facet of her body of work. Each jacket will display unique assemblages of her hand-embroidered patches that all clearly reflect her colorful aesthetic and individual style. Each jacket boasts upward of 20 totally unique and handstitched patches. They will be truly one-of-a-kind and wearable work of art!
This invitation extends to you, your family, and friends to join Gold Bug and the artist for this evening's festivities. No RSVP is necessary, and refreshments will be served.
Gold Bug has been a fixture in Old Pasadena for nearly 15 years, and more unique and wonderous art and curiosities abound in their new location.
About Kristina Drake:
“It is in nature that we can best see ourselves”
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Kristina Drake moved to California in 2014 where she currently lives and works. A sculptor since childhood, she explores themes like death and change through the lens of the natural world. Animal skulls, insects and geology feature prominently in her art, impressing upon the viewer a sense of time and space. She has shown in galleries across the country and works with aquariums and museums to help spread awareness for ongoing conservation efforts. She believes strongly that using the natural world in art as an allegory helps us to better understand ourselves and can bring attention to conservation efforts and institutions that work to protect our environment.
