The visual inspiration for the Sense of Nature silver and gold jewelry collection from London-based artist, Alex Monroe, comes from his long-standing fascination with Milagros or Ex-Voto - metallic folk tokens used as religious offerings in Mexico, Latin America, and Italy. Hand-carved quirky charms depict miniature body parts and ornate sacred heart motifs to form medallions. Alongside these fun elements, the senses are celebrated through intricate engravings symbolizing touch, sight, sound, scent, and taste.
Visit Gold Bug between the hours of 4-8 pm on Friday, June 7, for the US Launch Party of the Sense of Nature Collection. To celebrate, you are invited to indulge your senses with an immersive natural environment: SMELL the flowers that cover the room, TASTE the chocolate truffles from a local Pasadena maker, TOUCH the jewels that lay before you, HEAR the laughter of kindred spirits about you and the birdsong in the air, SEE the shimmering of light. The evening is about the sensation of being alive! Come dressed to impress!
Also, that same weekend, June 7, 8, and 9, shop from a visiting Trunk Show of Alex Monroe’s classic jewelry line. After the weekend, the trunk will be returned to Alex Monroe’s London studio and a smaller selection of classic pieces will remain at Gold Bug along with the entire Sense of Nature collection.
About the Artist:
Jeweler Alex Monroe grew up in the 1970s Suffolk countryside in an old, crumbling house surrounded by wild, tangled nature. He enjoyed a childhood rich with freedom and imagination - roaming through fields, forests, and rivers and constantly crafting all sorts of interesting (and sometimes mildly dangerous) tools and inventions to accompany him on his adventures!
Training at the School of Art, Architecture, and Design in London, Alex unexpectedly turned his hand to the craft of jewelry - and released his first collection in 1987 to critical acclaim. His intention was to produce excellent quality pieces, originally designed, made by hand and well-priced. This was jewelry made to be worn, made to be loved, and made to be treasured - values which remain unchanged to this day!
