Members and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly Street, are invited to free events and activities for anyone 50 and older. The center is a vital community resource where older adults can age in place while thriving in motion. Residency in Pasadena is not required to attend events and activities.

Free Summer Concert Series: Labor Day Concert and Dance – Monday, Sep. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. The center’s annual free summer concert series will conclude with the Great American Swing Band performing big band, R&B, jazz and Dixieland. Legal Consultations — Thursday, Sep. 5, at 10 a.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. Free legal consultations only on conservatorship, wills/trusts, estate planning and durable power of attorney. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 626-795-4331.

Who’s the Boss? Choosing the Right Trustee – Thursday, Sep. 5, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. Whether you’re already in the process of establishing a trust to safeguard your assets or considering adding a trust to your estate plan, learn about why selecting the right trustee is crucial. Monthly L.A. Food Bank Distribution — Friday, Sep. 6, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Pasadena Senior Center. Low-income adults 60 and older receive one free box of food and couples receive two. Proof of income and California ID are required. Each box includes foods that meet specific nutritional needs, such as cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk and related dairy products, cereals and other grain products, and more. Boxes are heavy, so bring a pull-behind personal cart to the parking lot between the Pasadena Senior Center and the Metro Gold Line station. Bilingual Tech Help — Mondays, Sep. 9, 16, 23 and 30, at 10 a.m. onsite in the Technology Lab at Pasadena Senior Center. Need help with your smart phone, tablet or computer? Learn how to navigate social media platforms, send texts, check voicemails, set alarms and more. Our experienced instructor, Mariana Porras, will be there to guide you every step of the way. MUSE/IQUE Offstage Encounters — Monday, Sep. 9, at 3 p.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. This informal hour features guest artists from MUSE/IQUE’s 2024 concert season Make Some Noise: Music and Stories of American Defiance and Hope. Arthritis Foundation Movement Exercises — Mondays and Wednesdays, Sep. 9 to Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Movement exercises, part of an evidence-based program developed by physical therapists, address the pain, fatigue and decreased strength that often accompany chronic illnesses. The routines use gentle ranges of motion movements suitable for every fitness level and can be done sitting or standing. Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy – Tuesday, Sep.10, from 9 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Have you been trying to make sense of Medicare? Volunteers provide free counseling and advocacy services about Medicare and related health care coverage the second Tuesday of every month. They are trained by the Center for Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy and registered with the California Department of Aging. To make a required appointment, call 626795-4331.

Benefits of Medical Marijuana and CBD for Older Adults – Thursday, Sep. 12, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. Learn the basics of the endocannabinoid system that regulates key processes such as pain, mood and appetites, and how cannabis and CBD can improve your well-being by offering pain relief, reduced inflammation, better sleep and anxiety management. Memory Loss and Medication Safety - Thursday, Sep. 19, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. Managing medications is hard enough. For someone with memory loss it can be even more of a challenge. Learn how to help loved ones who have memory loss manage their medications. Presented by Independence at Home, a SCAN Community Service. Health Fair — Friday, Sep. 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. Registered Nurse Kathy Eastwood from Huntington Hospital will be doing blood pressure and glucose testing. The Hear Center will provide free hearing screenings. Insurance representatives will be on hand to show different Medicare health plans, and answer questions. Registration is not required. Free Produce Distribution on the Patio — Friday, Sep. 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. (while supplies last) onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. Pre-assembled bags of vegetables will be distributed. Nutritious foods will be available to visitors at the Pasadena Senior Center. We recommend that you bring bags or a personal pull-behind cart to take your produce home. Protect Yourself from Financial Fraud and Cyber Threats - Thursday, Sep. 26, at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom. Learn how to prevent financial fraud and identity theft, how to combat the most common scams targeting older adults as well as best practices to stay safe and secure. Presented by the Foundation for Senior Services. Mediation, Conflict and Dispute Resolutions — Thursday, Sep. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Learn about mediation, a highly successful dispute resolution process that provides an opportunity to resolve conflicts without going to court. Mediation can help resolve landlord-tenant disputes, consumer-debt, neighbor-neighbor, and business, organization/agencies, family-domestic, and workplace/employment issues. Stop Senior Scams – Thursday, Sep. 26, at 1 p.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. Learn how to prevent and deal with senior fraud through dramatization of various scam scenarios performed by members of the Stop Senior Scams Acting Program, based on the real-life experiences of the actors. #AgeWell Day – Saturday, Sep. 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy a day of free discussions, workshops, fitness classes, free continental breakfast, refreshments, fun and inspiration to promote healthy aging. The day will kick off with a keynote presentation by Anthony Hou MD, chief of service, geriatrics and palliative medicine at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles. FREE MOVIE MATINEES – Fridays, Sep. 6, 13, 20, and 27, at 1 p.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. Each PSC member who registers may bring one nonmember guest.

  • Sep. 6: “The Creator” (1012, PG-13) starring John David Washington and Madeleine Yuna Voyles. Against the backdrop of a war between humans and robots with artificial intelligence, a former soldier finds the secret weapon: a robot in the form of a young child.
  • Sep. 13: “9/11” (2017, R) starring Charlie Sheen and Gina Gershon. Five people find themselves trapped in an elevator with nothing but hope and each other during the Sep. 11 attacks must work together to try to escape before the unthinkable happens.
  • Sep. 20: “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” (2024, R) starring Eddie Murphy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. After his daughter’s life is threatened, Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills for a family reunion that includes old pals John Taggart and Billy Rosewood to uncover a conspiracy. \

The Pasadena Senior Center’s mission is to improve the lives of older adults through caring service with opportunities for social interaction, fitness programs, basic support and needs services, education, volunteerism, and community activism. With 10,000 Americans per day becoming older adults, the center is a leader in addressing the issues of aging and provides innovative, cutting-edge, nationally recognized programs for this population group.

As a donor-supported nonprofit, the center operates without any local, state, or federal funding and provides more services to older adults in the San Gabriel Valley than any other organization.
