Members and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly Street, are invited to free events and activities for anyone 50 and older. The center is a vital community resource where older adults can age in place while thriving in motion. Residency in Pasadena is not required to attend events and activities.
Registration for Zoom activities and most onsite events is required by visiting www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org and clicking on Activities & Events, Lectures & Classes, or Resources. Everyone who registers for Zoom events will receive an email link for joining each activity online.
Guided Tours of Pasadena Senior Center – Mondays, March 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31, at noon and Thursdays, March 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 10 a.m. onsite at PSC. Take a guided tour with a PSC ambassador and learn how the center can enhance your life. Peek in on various activities at the center, such as an art class, dance lessons, computer lab and dozens more, and learn everything else about this first- ever accredited senior center in California. Health, Wellness, and Wholeness – Thursday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by L.A. Mental Health. Discover how staying emotionally and physically fit can keep you healthy and give you a positive attitude. Learning how to establish social networks and support can benefit you, your friends, your family and the community in which you live. Registration is required for this online event. Legal Consultations – Thursday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Learn about wills and trusts, conservatorships, durable powers of attorney and estate planning. To schedule a required appointment, call (626) 795-4331
Monthly Food Bank Distribution — Friday, March 7, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Pasadena Senior Center. Low-income adults 60 and older receive one free box of food and couples receive two. Each box includes foods that meet specific nutritional needs, such as cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk and related dairy products, cereals and other grain products, and more. Proof of income and California ID are required for first-time recipients. Boxes are heavy, so bring a pull-behind personal cart to the parking lot between the Pasadena Senior Center and the Metro Gold Line station. Opening boxes on the premises is prohibited. Movie Matinees – Fridays, March 7, 14, 21, and 28, at 1 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Each PSC member who registers may bring one nonmember guest. Mar. 7: “Conclave” (2025, PG) follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events -- selecting the new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Investment in Retirement – Thursday, March 13 at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Foundation for Senior Services. It’s not too late! We’ve spent our entire working lives being told to prepare for retirement. Once that date comes, is there any more we need to know and make decisions about? MUSE/IQUE at PSC for ArtNight Pasadena – Friday, March 14 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Art Night is a beloved festival of arts in Pasadena, and Pasadena Senior Center is participating for the second time! Emotional Intelligence – Wednesday, March 19 at 1:30 p.m., Presented by Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. We will define emotional intelligence, what its elements are and what impact it has on the individual's behavior in the context of interpersonal relationships. We will provide advice on developing emotional intelligence and how to promote a better quality of life. Registration is recommended. This program will be presented in Spanish.
Benefits of Medical Cannabis and CBD for Older Adults – Thursday, March 20 at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Megan Mbengue, RN. Specialist Megan Mbengue, a trusted Cannabis nurse, will educate us on "The Basics of the Endocannabinoid System" which regulates key processes like pain, mood, and appetite. We will highlight how cannabis and CBD can improve the well-being of older adults by offering pain relief, reduce inflammation, better sleep, and anxiety management. "Senior-Specific Dosing & Products" focuses on personalized dosing and product selection, advising low starting doses to avoid adverse effects and covering various suitable forms of cannabis and CBD. "Navigating California Laws & Facility Policies" guides seniors and caregivers on the legal landscape of cannabis use in California, providing practical advice on compliance and facility policies. #AgeWell Round Table – Friday, March 20 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Presentation by Foundation for Senior Services. What’s On Your Mind? Let’s Talk About It! This will be a supportive and confidential setting where participants are seen, heard, and understood. Roundtables provide an environment to listen to learn from one another, share experiences and insights, where all viewpoints, fears and feelings are valued by the group. A Cultural Thursday Event! – Senior Games: Winning Never Grows Old - Thursday, March 20, at 2:00 p.m. via Zoom, Presented by the California Senior Games Association. Participating in competitive sports doesn’t have an age limit. Olympic-style sports competitions for adults 50+, known as Senior Games, encourage adults to stay fit, make friends, and sometimes even set world records through competitive sports. Join host Anne Warner Cribbs, Olympian (1960) and president of the California Senior Games Association, who, along with a panel of athletes, will share their tips and challenges for staying competitive in mind and body through sports. Take the Sustained Athlete Fitness Exam (SAFE) – Tuesday, March 25 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Conducted by Students and Staff of CSUN Department of Physical Therapy. The SAFE exam assesses athlete fitness in four areas: cardiovascular, muscular, flexibility, and balance, and leaves you with tips and ideas to increase your fitness. The screening is provided by graduate students and staff from California State University Northridge (CSUN) Department of Physical Therapy. Space is limited. Health Fair and Fresh Produce Distribution – Friday, March 21, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Health fair services indoors will include blood pressure and glucose testing, hearing tests, updates in Medicare health plans, resources and more. Congresswoman Chu will speak about updates to Social Security and Medicare. Preassembled bags of fresh, nutritious vegetables will be distributed on the patio while supplies last, courtesy of Order of Malta Mobile Ministries. Mediation and Dispute Resolution – Thursday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Learn how to resolve conflicts with the help of a trained mediator, including property ownership, landlord/tenant disputes, workplace/employment issues, family disagreements and more. Analyzing the Different Options in Senior Care – Thursday, March 27 at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom, Presented by Foundation for Senior Services. Whether we’ve walked through the experience with family and friends, or you’ve ducked your head in the sand to avoid it, eventually, 4 out of 5 of us will require some sort of care assistance in our life, either at home or in a community. Lunch Program – Ongoing weekdays at 11:00 a.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. If you are 60 or older, enjoy a hot lunch every Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-served basis. Home Tea Program – Ongoing monthly. Anyone 50 and older can sign up to receive tea and an inspirational card once a month. To participate in this program, call (626) 685-6732.
Food Pantry – Ongoing weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Don’t let financial hardship, being homebound or other issues prevent you from eating healthy food. Pasadena Senior Center volunteers deliver food and other supplies to your door. To request delivery, call (626) 685-6732 and leave a message. Someone will return your call as soon as possible.
